Hi, this is the most recent picture of me, but I am still the same old guy (49 hi hi)
I was encouraged by Ron, VE3IVC to become an Amateur Radio Operator
in my last year of High School, so with his help and a course put on by
the local radio club, Quinte Amateur Radio Club, at the local college.
I passed and was licenced in 1976 as VE3RL Portable (Howard Fralick was
my sponsor at the time) due to mix-up with my own licence, Howard
allowed me to use his callsign until I got my own callsign VE3IWP (about
6 months later) The Dept. Of Communications, as it was called at that
time, required me to have a sponsor as I am Deaf. Howard has since
become Silent Key. My first contact was using Amateur Television (ATV)
on 439.25 MHz with Ron, VE3GAB, about 10 miles away. The local
ATVer's were Glen, VE3GJC, Howard, VE3RL and a few others that
were just monitoring the ATV frequency. My hometown is Belleville, Ontario.
I moved to Toronto, to attend college in 1977, to my much surprise of a
bigger and more advanced group of ATVer's. I had a lot of new contacts
and through the local ATV repeater (which no longer exists) and gotten
into some serious DX, my signals were received in Hickory Hills, Illinois at
Ron, W9ZIH on several occasions during the summer DX season. Also, at
Ed, W3POS, in Erie, PA, few others in New York, Ohio, Michigan.
I have since moved to Burnaby, British Columbia (Grid Square CN89nf) where
I live with my XYL, Sharon, our cat, Kato and dog, Benji.
I am an retired OM by medical reasons,
I spend most of my spare time homebrewing many things, and repairing or modifying
radios for myself and other hams. I enjoy everything about modifications.
I am now on 50 MHz, 144 MHz, 432 MHz and 10 GHz weak signal modes.
I have a beacon setup on 432.305 MHz, and would love to hear reports.
IF you have any questions or comments please send them to the e-mail
link at the home page. And yes, I have two callsigns, VE7LAD and VA7BJ
Very Best 73 and Happy DXing,
BJ
